Diet For a New America: Your Health, Your Planet [VHS]

In Diet for a New America, John Robbins, son of the founder of the Baskin-Robbins ice-cream empire, presents his theories about how an animal-based diet is killing Americans. Abandoning the wealthy lifestyle of his family, Robbins lived in a log cabin while subsisting on a simple diet of grains, and he eventually realized his calling as a dietary evangelist. He is not without a sense of humor; at one point he describes how he broke with his family by "walking away from our ice-cream-cone-shaped swimming pool." But Robbins takes his mission seriously, buttressing his strong opinions about how America must reform its diet with commentary from physicians and academics, including some experts from Cornell University who appear on camera. Robbins himself visits farms where pigs, cattle, and chicken are raised in hellish conditions to make the point that modern meat production is inhumane. Much of this video comes across as being commonsense dietary advice, though some of the more extreme statements by experts are no doubt debatable. And there's no denying that footage of heart surgeries and animals cramped into filthy cages could serve as strong reinforcement to those seeking a healthier diet. --Robert J. McNamara

Poll: Is Facebook give good health advice?

Not if you Harvard health experts, William Shrank, questions, the Facebook calls the "Wild West" when it comes to health information.
This is because the study his team on the popular social-networking Web site, which conducted found that many health came recommendations of which keep not FDA approved products and services.
15 Diabetes related Facebook pages, 27% of the comments from people, promoting were sanctioned by not FDA products or methods.
The Harvard team recommends the following;

"Policy makers should consider how to transparency in promotional activities to ensure and patients seek social networking sites developed and patrolled by healthcare professionals to promote accurate and unbiased information exchange"
I admit to that there are people on Facebook, trying to make people use a buck, but I find errors with the idea that the FDA and Heath experts have accurate and unbiased information.
How many times been the FDA wrong? how can ignore the countless amount of anecdotal that demonstrates the effectiveness of the treatments, the medical profession or not FDA approved?
This is really the "we are better and wiser than thou" attitude which seem that some universities have in particular in view of those who, think outside the box when it comes to a diet, health and fitness.
What are your thoughts on the idea that we should consider only health advice from the FDA and health professionals? in the comments and poll see participate.

Should consumers consider only FDA and doctor approved products and treatments when dealing with health issues?

Weight loss: A very cool solution

freezing.jpg

Take a curious former NASA scientist and author of forward-thinking pop culture, and the result may be a revolutionary (and perhaps a bit uncomfortable) weight loss method.

Use the laws of thermodynamics, has Ray Cronise empfänglichere strategic exposure to cold to accelerate weight loss wird.Er writes this method for its 30 lbs weight loss in 6 weeks.

Says Cronise;

Our body temperature remains constant, and it needs much energy to your home to keep way, not unlike heating it...I treated my body like a thermostat... run to see if I could until the electricity bill and the oven (my metabolism) running at full speed to get.Source

A seed was curiosity on's hear from Michael Phelp productive calorie intake Cronise gepflanzt.Es dawned on him that it forces the cold water to fight Phelps was its temperature to keep.

With swimming and so-called thermal stress, where is the body exposed to cold in various ways, Cronise applied some old military research and found that he could lose up to 4 pounds per week. techniques include ice baths and strange ice water.

This is a paradigm shift - while we traditionally think of heating the body to induce a metabolic boost - Cronise proposes to focus it cool.

The theory is to the wear in the form of a book of "The 4-day work week" author Tim Ferris come where Cronise is a case study and contributor.See Ferris extensive research, he discovered a technique that manipulation, temperature used fat loss to improve 300 percent.

Dr. David Katz, founder of the integrative medicine center and Professor at Yale University, had this to say about the concept;
Is cold is inconvenient. Honestly, when people are ready, that could misery, losing weight as well try eating well and exercising.

A valid point and one of the best deals I have long heard habe.Und during the old military research offers on emphasis on soldiers and weight loss, for any reason to be optimistic that focuses most of them haven't seen per se to halten.Ich to support a clinical study with a control group to the anecdotal experiences of Cronise.

Also, I live in Canada - I'm cold here 8 months of Jahres.Das last what, that I home come with a cold rainy day wants to do is enjoy in a cold tub or glasses of water to crush ice.

So while the theory makes complete sense, I recommend is still guarded optimism - sounds like a potentially moderately helpful adjunct strategy which standard better less food and exercise mehr.Am best I would say this strategy evolutionary, rather than is revolutionary.

Would you try this as a fat loss method?
